General Manager Ahmed Achour

Ahmed Achour is a member of the GeneralManagers.Org community. He shares his story on why he became a General Manager in the following interview:

Let me introduce myself, I am Ahmed ACHOUR – 50 years old – General Manager and Founder of Beyond IT Services a startup company created in 2015 in Tunisia.

My Initial Study was as an Assistant Telecoms Engineer obtained in 1991 ( Tunisian Hight School of Telecoms)  then a Master of Business and Administration obtained in 2011 (Paris Dauphine).

After around 24 years of experience in the ICT Market in Tunisia working for a SYSTEL Tunisian Subsidiary of TRT Philips then Subsidiary of Lucent Technologies and then for One Tech Business Solutions with a more then 1 year as a General Manager for an Algerian Company (SALGETEL subsidiary of One Tech Business Solutions) and due to some personnel and external facts I ve decided to create my own Business in September 2015.

During My experience, I ve worked on all the chain value of an IT Integrator starting as a Field engineer to attain the function of the Operations Manager (Project Manager, Pre sales Manager, Technical Support Center Manager, IS Manager, Planning and Budget Manager…).

Why did you become a General Manager?

After 24 years of experience working on the ICT Market in Tunisia, I launched my own company specialized on the services and trying to outsource the Project Management and the consulting services from my customer and let them focus on their Business. Due to the Diversity of the ICT segment (Security, UC, Networking, Computing…) I think that the customer will have more benefic if he will outsources these functions and focus on his Business. For this we have used the concept Expertaas (Expert As A Services) and we try to offer to our customer the expert need at the time needed which can reduce Price.

What work were you doing previously?

I ve worked previously as Datacoms Enginner, Technical Support Engineer, Product Manager, Technical Support Center Manager, Projects & Operations Manager, Budget & Operations services manager, Information’s Systems Manager, Performance Manager.

What are you doing now?

We are till now working to develop our Business on the country (Partnership development) and working also with some other startup companies as networked companies on the Field on the Strategic consulting and specially Processing the Technical Department (Process, RACI Matrix, KPI…).

When was the moment you decided to make the change?

Since the merge between my old employer SYSTEL with One Tech Business Solutions.

Are you happy with the change?

I try to be , I do all my best to succeed this new challenge however the economic situation on the country let the period more difficult.

What do you miss and what don’t you miss?

I ve missed and international career and working to my own account at early stage. I don’t miss to learn to be customer oriented.

How did you go about making this career move?

Working Hard, continuous training.

What didn’t go well? What ‘wrong turns’ did you take?

Entrepreneurship at this time.

How did you handle your finances to make your change possible?

Personnal ressources.

What was the most difficult thing about changing?

Choosing the good time.

What were other difficulties and how did you overcome them?

Hard competition, miss of sponsorship and sales relationship with influencer.

What help did you get?

Personnel effort.

What have you learnt in the process?

If you want to go fast go alone… if you want to go far go together.

Love your job and not your company.

What do you wish you’d done differently?

More individual certification, and international career.

What would you advise others to do in the same situation?

Looking for new challenge and job opportunity or decide to be entrepreneur at an early stage.
